There’s something inexplicably exhilarating about the anticipation of viewing a new motorhome. The promise of freedom, the lure of the open road, and the vision of comfortable, compact living; it all sums up the undying charm of owning a home on wheels. We were on our way to DG Motorhomes in Chatteris with two specific models in mind – the T-Line 740 and the Zefiro 696.
The Journey
The journey to Chatteris itself was serene. As you approach the Fenland area, the landscape transitions into flat, open vistas. On a clear day, the sky seems vast, with cotton candy clouds hanging lazily, contrasting with the deep greens of the fields. It’s almost as if nature is setting the scene for the freedom that the Motorhome promises.
Arriving at DG Motorhomes in the picturesque surroundings of Chatteris, the vast display of motorhomes felt overwhelming but invigorating. But our mission was clear: the T-Line 740 and Zefiro 696.

First Impressions: T-Line 740
After reading the reviews and experiences of many Motorhome owners, the T-Line 740, with its reputation for luxury and modern amenities, was the first on our list. On the outside, it looked sleek and sophisticated. Stepping inside, we were greeted by a tapestry of high-end finishes and contemporary design. The space felt upscale, and the attention to tech and comfort was evident. But, as we ventured further, the layout and certain features left us with mixed feelings about this being the right fit for our needs. The garage access was quite limited and we felt the layout of the bathroom area could be better.
The Charm of the Zefiro 696
Next on the list was the Zefiro 696. Externally, it held its ground with a vibrant, curvaceous design that immediately caught the eye. But the true magic unfolded once we stepped inside.
The Zefiro 696 felt like a breath of fresh air. It wasn’t just the panoramic skylight that flooded the living area with light or the elegant design choices. No, it was the intuitive layout that truly stood out. The space was designed thoughtfully, with every section flowing seamlessly into the next. From the rear island bed to the drop-down bed over the lounge, it was evident that functionality was at the heart of its design. The bathroom area was more integrated into the rear bedroom, freeing up a corridor space that seemed wasted in the T-Line 740.
One of the key features we were looking for was a sizable and easily accessible garage space. The Zefiro 696 delivered on this spectacularly. Not only was the garage area more spacious than we’d anticipated, but the access points were also thoughtfully designed, making it easy to store larger items. This was a game-changer for us. The ability to easily stow away bulky items, like chairs and outdoor gear, was a massive advantage.
It was this combination of design and function, and the extra berth over the 740, taking it to 5, that made the Zefiro 696 a clear winner for us.
So, for those contemplating a visit to DG Motorhomes, be ready – you might just find the mobile home of your dreams, even if it’s not the one you initially had in mind!
